Herb and his family lived in Nairobi from Feb '69 thru Aug '71. First, they lived on the Ngong Rd., then moved to Eastchurch Rd. in the Westlands. Our son was born at the Nairobi hospital. Herb was on staff at the British High Commission. They were members of the Lavington United Church where Herb taught junior high Sunday school.
They were also active with the Africa Inland Mission, visiting Kijabe several times. They were very good friends with the Hindoian's and the Tekerian's, who owned the Nairobi steam laundry.
Herb knew that Margaret Nicholson's father was living on Riverside Drive at the time they were in Nairobi and Herb always intended to call and ask about Margaret, but never did get around to it.
Around 1955 that Margaret graduated and returned to Kenya. She was married shortly after that. In those days Herb was serving in the British Merchant Navy. In 1955 Herb was sent out to Australia and spent the next years or so sailing the Australian coast. In 1960 Herb left the sea and joined the Foreign Service in 1961. Later that year Herb got married. They lived in Hong Kong Aug '63 thru Aug '66. In 1976 they emigrated to the US, by this time Herb was working in the Data Processing industry. Herb took an early retirement and entered the Ministry, serving the United Methodist Church as Pastor until retiring.
